The Challenges Ahead

The benefits that well-designed, well-managed green spaces can provide for residents is increasingly being acknowledged. Neighbourhoods Green believes that the following are required to ensure that these benefits can be supplied across the social housing sector:

  • awareness is raised within social housing providers of the benefits of green and open spaces;
  • relevant skills are improved within the sector;
  • viable resourcing models are identified to improve on-the-ground quality;
  • standards of best practice are developed and adopted;
  • 'green space' champions within the sector are identified and supported;
  • regulatory frameworks are influenced and amended;
  • our residents' interest in gardens and green spaces is developed;
  • evidence that green spaces have a direct bearing on housing management, community regeneration, development and asset management, and the quality of life of social housing residents is demonstrated;
  • relevant guidance appropriate to the needs of the sector is disseminated, adopted and utilised;
  • effective and equable partnerships with relevant green space organisations are developed and strengthened.
